No Political Vendetta In Sacking City Councillors Says Selangor Mb S Pol Sec

The Selangor government is not sacking their city councillors because of “political vendetta”, said the Selangor menteri besar’s political secretary Borhan Aman Shah
The termination of service of the city councillors, he said, is valid under Section 10(4) of the Local Government Act 1976
“The practice of appointing a city councillor depends on several factors
“Among them is that it is subject to the quota of appointments based on the recommendations of the political parties
“Therefore, in this context, the appointment of any councillors is the full prerogative of the political parties which, of course, is based on the development and current needs of a party,” Borhan (photo) said in a statement today
As such, the Tanjong Sepat assemblyperson said he hoped people would stop playing up political victimhood sentiments and continue to work to fulfil the rakyat’s aspirations
He was responding to an article from The Star yesterday which had said Selangor city councillors were being sacked well into the night, with more expected to get the boot
It was reported that all six councillors who had been sacked had claimed it was an act of “political vendetta”
The six sacked councillors are Subang Jaya City Council’s Ismail Kamal Abdul Rahman, Ampang Jaya City Council’s Nallan Dhanabalan, Haslina Abin @ Kassim, Salmah Ismail, Hassan Yusof as well as Sepang city councillor Muhammad Mizan Adli Muhammad Noor
All six had received a termination letter signed by Selangor Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari, which stated their services as councillors for the 2018-2020 period were being terminated as of May 7 under the Local Government Act
The report also said the reason for termination was not stated in the letters
Amirudin has remained loyal to PKR despite once being touted as former PKR deputy president Mohd Azmin Ali’s protege, and, as such, the Selangor government is still under the control of Pakatan Harapan
Azmin Ali had defected from PKR in February, along with 10 other MPs, to join the Perikatan Nasional government. - Mkini
