No Dissolution Ruler Assents To Selangor Govt Continuing Mb

Selangor ruler Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah has given his royal assent for the state government not to have concurrent polls with the federal government.
This comes after the Parliament was dissolved yesterday to make way for the 15th general election (GE15) which must be held within 60 days.
In a statement today, Selangor Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari said the ruler agreed for the state government to focus on ensuring the well-being of the people.
"I sought an audience with the ruler this morning at Istana Kayangan in a scheduled meeting.
"I brought up the state government's commitment and preparation in dealing with the possible flood situation in Selangor, economic recovery efforts, and welfare assistance," he said.
The Selangor state budget 2023, which will be presented in the state legislative assembly, was also raised, according to Amirudin.

Resolve issues affecting people
Meanwhile, Amirudin said the sultan advised the state government to resolve issues that affect the people before dissolving the state assembly.
These include flood mitigation projects and the redevelopment of the Shah Alam Sports Complex.
According to Bernama, he said sultan issued a decree to discuss the economic development of the state.
“The sultan advised us (state government) to expedite whatever needs to be done, before dissolving the state assembly.
“During the audience, there was no decree from his majesty to dissolve the state assembly ahead of GE15 and we will stick to our plan to not dissolve the assembly before next year,” he said.
Amirudin was speaking to reporters when met at the main entrance of Istana Bukit Kayangan, in Shah Alam today, after his royal audience that lasted about two hours.
The menteri besar said the decision to not dissolve the state assembly was already discussed with the sultan about three months ago.
“The sultan advised me to… hold the state election next year, with various parties involved so as to have an efficient election process and not held together with the general election,” he said.
State budget postponed
Amirudin added that the tabling of the 2023 state budget and the state assembly sitting scheduled from Oct 28 to Nov 10, is expected to be postponed and probably held after GE15.
Speaking of Pakatan Harapan’s preparations and choice of candidates for GE15, Amirudin, who is Selangor Harapan chairperson, said most candidates will be incumbents, except for the Ampang and Gombak parliamentary seats.
“Last night we had discussions on candidates for GE15. We will promote young and vibrant new faces to add variation to the list as well as strengthen PKR and Harapan’s representation,” he said.
Apart from Selangor, Harapan-led Negeri Sembilan as well as PAS-led states Kedah, Terengganu, and Kelantan have decided not to dissolve their legislative assemblies.
Penang DAP was reportedly having second thoughts on whether to dissolve its legislative assembly or not.
Perlis and Perak, which are led by BN, will seek the consent of their respective rulers to dissolve their legislative assemblies in line with the dissolution of Parliament.
Climate change experts recently warned against having the general election before February next year, saying the flood situation during the monsoon season might be worse than it was last year. - Mkini
