Newborn Baby Found Abandoned In Sungai Petani
Kuala Muda police chief Wan Azharuddin Wan Ismail said the baby appeared to be in good health, with no visible injuries.
PETALING JAYA: A newborn baby girl was found inside a bag under the carport of a house in Taman Semarak in Sungai Petani, Kedah, yesterday.
Kuala Muda police chief Wan Azharuddin Wan Ismail said the cops received a report about the matter at 11.39am.
“The baby was found in a maroon bag with her umbilical cord still attached,” he was quoted as saying in a Berita Harian report.
He said the baby was clean and in good health, with no visible injuries.
“She was taken to Sultan Abdul Halim Hospital for a medical examination. We have yet to receive details from the medical officers on the baby’s estimated age and health condition,” he added.
Wan Azharuddin said there were no CCTV cameras in the vicinity, and that no one had seen the baby being abandoned.
“A witness reported hearing a baby crying from the bag at around 11am. Upon opening it, they discovered the baby, who was unclothed,” he said.
Wan Azharuddin said the witness immediately contacted the police, put the baby in a diaper, and wrapped her in a towel as she was shivering.
Police will contact health clinics and hospitals to check for any recent births that could be linked to the case, he said.
So far, no arrests have been made. The case is being investigated under Section 317 of the Penal Code for child abandonment. - FMT
