Najib Muhyiddin Makes It Sound Like Parliament Convening For First Time
Ex-prime minister Najib Abdul Razak said Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin was making it appear as if Parliament would be convening for its very first time.
This was after Muhyiddin said a bipartisan committee will look into the reconvening of Parliament and whether it can be held in a hybrid mode - a combination of digital and physical.
Najib explained the matter was straightforward and there was nothing to study.
"There is no need for a study. I can provide the solution.
"Step one: send a notice to the speaker to convene Parliament. Step two: sitting is in session. The end," he said in a Facebook post.
Najib noted the Yang di-Pertuan Agong and conference of rulers had called on the government to convene Parliament as soon as possible.
"The Yang Di-Pertuan Agong and conference of rulers did not decree for you to set up a committee to study how to convene Parliament," he said.
He added that if the government was unsure if Parliament can convene with 220 MPs, it can always learn from the many electronics, gloves, and construction companies that the government has allowed to operate during the "total lockdown".
"Parliament previously also convened when Covid-19 cases were in the thousands and none of the MPs had been vaccinated.
"Now, all MPs have already completed their second dose of vaccine," he said.
He also sarcastically suggested that if Parliament was not safe, the MPs can convene at factories or construction sites that are being allowed to operate during the ongoing lockdown.
Earlier today, Muhyiddin said a committee will look into the reconvening of Parliament to address legal aspects. - Mkini
