Najib Is The Real Traitor Not Me Muhyiddin
Former Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin today lambasted a certain Umno leader for trying to paint him as a traitor of the Malays.
In a statement, the Bersatu president claimed that the real traitor is one of its own - Najib Abdul Razak who used to be Umno president and Malaysia's sixth prime minister.
"Some Umno leaders are trying to get the Malays to believe that I am a traitor. They tried to paint the picture that I was the person who caused the Malays to lose a lot when I set up Bersatu and worked together with PKR and DAP to bring Umno down.
"These people are just trying to cover up the reality that Umno was actually betrayed by its own former president, Najib Razak. He was the one who let the 1MDB scandal get worse when it came to a stage that the majority of the rakyat hated Umno.
"He (Najib) had sacked me from the deputy prime minister post in 2015 just because I suggested that 1MDB issues be investigated transparently. I had made the suggestion so that it would not bring a bad impression to the government and the party at that time," Muhyiddin said in a Facebook post this afternoon.
Muhyiddin was Umno deputy president and also deputy prime minister, both posts which he served under Najib leadership before he was sacked for going against the then premier.
He then founded Bersatu together with several others and joined forces with PKR, DAP and Amanah to defeat Umno in the country's 14th general election in 2018.
"Have the Malays forgotten the time when we were put to shame and looked down on by the whole world because of the 1MDB scandal? Don't Umno people know that the reason why they lost (in the election) was because of Najib dragging the party in his scandal?
"If I am being branded as a traitor because I spoke out about the 1MDB scandal and established Bersatu to fight against the kleptocrats in Umno, then I will take that brand," he said.
'Pushing for GE15'
In his statement, Muhyiddin also criticised Umno leaders whom he branded as the 'court cluster', referring to those facing criminal charges in court, for allegedly pushing for the Johor state election.
He claimed that the snap polls were engineered because the group of Umno leaders wanted to get rid of Perikatan Nasional and get Umno back into power "to solve their problems".
"When I was brought down (from leading the government), these Umno leaders were hoping that they would be able to regain control of the government. And by having control, they think that their problems can be put away.
"However, their plan could not work because PN is still a part of the federal government, and our support for the Prime Minister (Ismail Sabri Yaakob) who is from Umno comes with a condition - that the premier cannot interfere in the court process.
"So it is not surprising that the court cluster is still not happy. They want to get PN out of the government so that it will again come under full control of Umno, which is dominated by the cluster.
"One of the ways for them to reach this objective is by defeating state governments that are formed with PN, so that state polls would have to be held and if their party wins, the party leadership that is controlled by the court cluster would be seen as becoming stronger and influential," Muhyiddin said. - Mkini
