Najib Files Appeal Against Jail Term Fine In Src International Corruption Case

Najib Abdul Razak has filed an appeal against his 12-year jail sentence and RM210 million fine conviction in the RM42 million SRC International corruption case
The former prime minister, through law firm Shafee & Co, filed the notice of appeal at the Kuala Lumpur High Court and forwarded a copy to the Court of Appeal at around 2 pm this afternoon
When contacted, Najib’s co-defence counsel Muhammad Farhan Muhammad Shafee confirmed the filing of the notice of appeal
“The notice of appeal was filed via e-filing at the Kuala Lumpur High Court
“A copy of the notice of appeal was forwarded to the Court of Appeal around 2 pm this afternoon,” said Farhan
Yesterday, judge Mohd Nazlan Mohd Ghazali found Najib guilty of seven counts of abuse of power, criminal breach of trust (CBT) and money laundering in relation to RM42 million of funds from SRC International
The court imposed the concurrent jail terms and fine against Najib who was previously finance minister, advisor emeritus to SRC International and chairperson of the board of advisors to 1MDB
Formerly a subsidiary of sovereign wealth fund 1MDB, SRC International - during Najib’s tenure as prime minister and finance minister - became fully-owned by the Minister of Finance Incorporated (MoF Inc)
The Kuala Lumpur High Court allowed a stay on the sentence against Najib, pending the accused’s appeal to the Court of Appeal
The stay was granted on the condition that Najib posted an additional RM1 million bail with two sureties. The additional bail was posted yesterday. - Mkini
