Najib Disputes Anwar S Claim Of Majority Support

Najib  said while Anwar claimed to want nothing to do with the corrupt, the opposition leader was associated with DAP chairman Lim Guan Eng, who is currently facing corruption charges over the Penang undersea tunnel project. (FMT) – Najib Razak has criticised PKR president Anwar Ibrahim’s inconsistent statements over having majority support to become prime minister.
The former prime minister was responding to Anwar, who yesterday said that he would have become prime minister had he agreed to requests from corrupt leaders from Umno to interfere in their court cases.
“He said he didn’t have majority support because he refused to conspire with the corrupt, but then was able to knock on the palace’s gates claiming that he had majority support,” Najib said in a Facebook post.
Najib was referring to the time in September 2020 when the Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman claimed he had statutory declarations (SDs) from a majority of MPs backing him as prime minister.
The former prime minister also said while Anwar claimed to want nothing to do with the corrupt, the opposition leader was associated with DAP chairman Lim Guan Eng, who is currently facing corruption charges over the Penang undersea tunnel project.
Lim is standing trial on charges of using his position as then Penang chief minister to ask Consortium Zenith BUCG Sdn Bhd director Zarul Ahmad Mohd Zulkifli for a 10% cut of the profits from the undersea tunnel project and accepting RM3.3 million in kickbacks from the businessman.
He is also accused of two counts of dishonestly misappropriating RM208.7 million worth of state land to two companies.
“Anwar said PKR lacks Malay support. So, this can only mean that they’re relying on DAP for non-Malay support,” Najib said.
