Myppp Deregistration Reversed But Political Drama Continues
The Registrar of Societies (ROS) may have reversed the deregistration of MyPPP but the political drama in the former BN component does not appear to be ending
On Thursday, disputed MyPPP president M Kayveas thanked the ROS for reinstating the six-decade-old party and declared that the "coup d'etat" against him had failed
"MyPPP has once again proven that what was built over the last 26 years by me as president cannot be erased, destroyed or forcefully made to switch tracks by diabolic, deceitful and unethical plotting in cohorts," he had in a statement
However, yesterday, an opposition MyPPP faction led by Maglin Dennis D Cruz said Kayveas has no right to declare himself as president
"We ask that he does not confuse members by claiming that he is now in charge of MyPPP," he told a press conference in Kelana Jaya
According to the ROS letter to MyPPP, sighted by Malaysiakini, the party is not yet out of the woods
The letter grants a conditional reinstatement of MyPPP, in which it recognises the MyPPP committee of 2014-2019 as the authority to appoint an independent third party to facilitate the feuding parties
The independent facilitator must be endorsed by the all feuding parties and it is to prepare a report as soon as possible on how to resolve the dispute between the feuding parties
The ROS added that the MyPPP committee of 2014-2019 may not exercise any other powers other than to appoint the independent facilitator and to hold the party election which must be held by Dec 31
The ROS also listed the members of the MyPPP committee of 2014-2019, which include the feuding leaders Kayveas and Maglin without mentioning their positions
Maglin (above) pointed out the ROS letter mentioned all members of the 2014-2019 committee without recognising Kayveas as the president
He also claimed that out of the 33 committee members, only six are on Kayveas' side
"This means he has lost the confidence of party members," Maglin said this after convening a meeting with part of the 2014-2019 committee
Acknowledging that Kayveas is also part of the committee, but was obviously absent from the meeting, Maglin said he is prepared to meet with Kayveas on moving forward with the ROS conditions
However, Kayveas in a statement today said the reinstatement of MyPPP was based upon his appeal to the ROS
Kayveas said he and his "right-minded appointed office bearers" will meet ROS' conditions but does not mention whether they include Maglin's faction
"As the legitimate, constitutionally elected president of the party, I will ensure that I and my right-minded appointed office bearers and I aspire to meet the conditions set by the ROS in so far as these are legal and consistent with the nation’s rule of law - which is the thrust of our new Malaysia leadership," he said
The party split after Kayveas took MyPPP out of BN following the coalition's defeat in the 14th general election
However, Maglin's faction opposed the move and had tried to block MyPPP's exit from BN
The protected tussle led to MyPPP deregistration in January but it was given a conditional reinstatement in a ROS letter dated Oct 7 following an appeal to Home Minister Muhyiddin Yassin. - Mkini
