Mydin Not Scrapping Menu Rahmah Though Some Food Traders Pull Out After Struggling With Rising Cost
WHO says that the Menu Rahmah business is unsustainable?
Well, MYDIN Malaysia is dispelling such notion by showcasing on social media that the halal hypermarket and retail chain operator is dishing out the affordable meal initiative without fail seven days a week at its 28 hypermarkets nationwide.
“Many may not know but the Menu Rahmah which costs RM4.90 includes rice, chicken/fish protein, vegetables and drinking water is still sold at 28 MYDIN branches,” the hypermart operator posted on the X platform.
“You can get the Menu Rahmah at the Ready-To-Eat (RTE) section. Menu may differ in Sabah & Sarawak branches.”
Despite the simplicity of its Menu Rahmah meal offering, former engineer-turned-chocolate merchant Basiaq™ (@Mbasiir_) praised the Menu Rahmah portion offered by MYDIN as “very filling”.
Mother of three MariaZam (@MariatiSalleh) paid tribute to the late Domestic Trade and Costs of Living Minister Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub who introduced the Menu Rahmah initiative while thanking Mydin Mohamed Holdings Bhd managing director Datuk Wira Ameer Ali Mydin “for fulfilling the promise to keep Menu Rahmah readily available till today”.
Below are more praises that come MYDIN’s way for not giving up with its Menu Rahmah initiative.
As it is, the Menu Rahmah initiative which took off as a privately-run affordable meal programme meant for the hardcore poor on Jan 31, 2023 (with meals priced at RM5 or less) has faced setbacks due to the escalating prices of livestock, produce and grains such as lamb, beef, onions, cooking oil and rice.
As such, it is not surprising that traders and restaurateurs who are incapable of coping with rising costs would eventually exit the programme. – Focus Malaysia
