Muhibbah Spirit School Praised For Sharing Parking With Surau

Social media users have praised a primary school for opening its property during Ramadan to serve as a car park for a neighbouring surau.
The school is SJKC Puay Chai 2 in Bandar Utama, Selangor which is opposite the Surau Al-Syakirin.
A school staff member told Malaysiakini this practice was not new as surau visitors have used the school's car park during Ramadan for the past 10 years.
As for the surau, its car park is open to parents who need to use it between Monday and Thursday, or when there is a parent-teacher association meeting.
The staff member, who wished to remain anonymous, said although the surau had its own car park, it was not enough and opening the school's car park to surau visitors helps with traffic congestion.
"We have always had a cordial relationship. This is how we should behave in a community," said the staff.
Social media interest in the relationship between the two bodies was sparked by Twitter user Fedtri Yahya.
SJKC Puay Chai 2 in Bandar Utama, SelangorOn April 3l, Fedtri tweeted he found an open space for Muslims to park at the Chinese primary school next to Surau Al-Syakirin.
The post received a number of responses from internet users, who, unaware of the long-standing relationship, also praised the school for providing the parking space.
