PETALING JAYA: A Malaysian Resources Corporation Berhad (MRCB) subsidiary has been awarded a RM2.47 billion contract by Prasarana Malaysia Bhd for reinstatement works on the Light Rail Transit 3 (LRT3) line.
In a statement, MRCB said the contract granted to LRT3 main contractor Setia Utama LRT 3 Sdn Bhd (SULRT3) covers the design, construction, completion, testing and commissioning of reinstatement works along the Bandar Utama to Johan Setia route.
The scope of the works includes the construction of five reinstated stations, the construction of two electric vehicle bus depots at Shah Alam and Johan Setia, the supply of light rail vehicles, and other related infrastructure and system works.
MRCB said the project is expected to be completed within 48 months from its commencement date and will have a positive impact on its future earnings.
It said while the project might face the normal construction risks of price fluctuations in materials, SULRT3’s experience as the LRT3 main contractor meant that it was well placed to mitigate these risks through its existing controls and operational procedures.
LRT3, which runs from Bandar Utama to Johan Setia, is 98.16% complete and is scheduled to begin operations on Sept 30.
In a written parliamentary reply, transport minister Loke Siew Fook said a trial run and fault-free run under the first phase will be conducted by the main contractor, SULRT3, over 75 days from mid-April to late-June.
The land public transport agency will assess the system’s safety, compliance and system reliability during this period.
A trial operation under the second phase will then be carried out by Rapid Rail Sdn Bhd with technical support from SULRT3. - FMT
