Mp Urges Speaker To Allow Written Questions While Parliament Suspended
Klang MP Charles Santiago has appealed to Dewan Rakyat speaker Azhar Azizan Harun to allow the submission of written questions even though Parliament has been suspended.
In a letter to Azhar, Charles said MPs are facing difficulties in raising pertinent issues that need answers from the government.
“As an MP, I shoulder the people’s mandate and carry out my duties, particularly during this Covid-19 crisis.
“Therefore, I request your permission to submit written questions in the interest of the people and country,” he said in the letter.
The DAP lawmaker said that the issues concern the Covid-19 pandemic and also people’s livelihood as they grapple with the economic impact of the Covid-19 pandemic.

He added that he hopes Azhar can ensure the function of Parliament is respected.
Charles told Malaysiakini that his appeal is an effort to open discussions with ministers at a time when this cannot be done through Parliament.
“These are pressing questions that push the government to inform the rakyat on policies, regulations and effectiveness of managing Covid-19,” he said.
The government secured a state of emergency on Jan 11 on the grounds that it was necessary to combat the Covid-19 pandemic.
However, the emergency also suspended Parliament, leading to claims that Muhyiddin was trying to cling on to power after losing his majority in the Dewan Rakyat.
