Mobile Legend Carnival In Mosque Infuriates Muslim Netizens

WILL technology and spirituality ever unite in Malaysia? The argument that technology and all the entertainment that comes alongside it leading people astray from the path of God is an old one.
And it is about to be revived again with a video that has recently gone viral.
In the video, a lady could be seen angrily complaining that the mosque at Universiti Malaya had been turned into a venue for a Mobile Legend carnival.
The video has since become a debating ground on the appropriateness of the carnival, and netizens are divided over it.
According to @Hisham_Ahmad6, there were quite a number of scantily clad female characters in Mobile Legend which showed their chests and other places.
“If it was outside the mosque I could accept it. Not in the main prayer hall, ok! During the time of the prophet, it was even forbidden to sing in the main prayer hall, and what about things like this?” said @hasfaniAhmad.
Adding to this was @zanjaf, stating that the interior of the mosque was not a place for games. “You can’t even do business there, what’s more, playing with the worldly things that make people heedless,” he said.

However, another netizen pointed out that a long time ago, the mosque was used as a gathering place, for recreation, cooperation or protection against wars and disasters, not only as a place for prayer.

@Mochiiinomnom who claimed to be a staff at Universiti Putra Malaysia said the management of the mosque was very clever, stating that this was one way they used to attract the young people to go to the mosque.

Also, @farsalurhahS said it was alright to have the carnival as long as they stopped it during prayer time. “The game content should not be lewd, clothes worn were appropriate and it was not noisy,” he said.
@densyraf was in agreement, stating that the mosque was a place of unity, not just prayer. “Mobile Legend is not forbidden. It is not like they were organising it when people were praying,” he said. — Focus Malaysia
