Misquoted Muhyiddin Defends Hadi Over Johoreans Islamic Knowledge
JOHOR POLLS | Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin today comes to the defence of his ally PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang, who reportedly said in a recent ceramah that there is a lack of awareness of Islamic politics in Johor.
Speaking to reporters this morning, Muhyiddin said he believed that Hadi might have been either misquoted or misunderstood.
"I am not sure what Hadi meant. He is my friend in Perikatan Nasional. Maybe he was misquoted.
"Because Hadi was with me in Kota Tinggi recently where he said that Johor is special because all Muslim Johoreans receive Islamic education under the state's religious school system, which means that all Malay Muslims in Johor have basic Islamic education and are able to evaluate the good from the bad, heaven and hell, the halal from the haram," he said when met at an event organised by the Women, Family and Community Development Ministry in Muar.
Muhyiddin was asked to comment on Hadi's remarks, where he allegedly said that a lack of awareness on Islamic politics in Johor had led to PAS' failure to make its mark, contrary to states like Kelantan and Terengganu where PAS continues to lead.
Bersatu and PAS are part of the PN coalition, which is currently on its campaign trail in the Johor state election.
Muhyiddin, who is PN chairperson, added that Johor is a state that can not be compared to others in terms of its Islamic education system.
"At the state level, we already have a good Islamic education system in place, which has also been a benchmark for other states in Malaysia," he said. - Mkini
