The statement came after police said they had arrested a 15-year-old schoolboy shown in a viral video repeatedly hitting his schoolmate with a motorcycle helmet for refusing to skip school with him.
Sentul police chief Ahmad Sukarno Zahari said the boy was detained at about 1.20am after being surrendered by his mother.
He said police received a report from the victim’s father yesterday that his 14-year-old son had been assaulted by a schoolmate.
“The preliminary investigation found that the incident stemmed from the victim’s refusal to skip school with the suspect. The suspect forced him onto a motorcycle and took him to Bukit Prima Pelangi Segambut Dalam, near Villa Orkid Condominium, where he repeatedly struck the victim in the face and chest using a helmet,” he said in a statement today.
The education ministry said the school was requested to ensure that disciplinary action is taken against those guilty. It said the ministry does not compromise on bullying in educational institutions under its management.
Earlier today, a video of a teenager sitting on the victim as they wrestled in the bushes went viral on social media. The teenager is also seen taking a plastic bag filled with dry leaves and throwing it on the victim’s head. - FMT
