Ministry Mrt Corp Looking To Turn Titiwangsa Into Transport Hub
Titiwangsa will be the main station under the MRT2 project, says transport minister Loke Siew Fook, who took a ride on the MRT today. (Bernama pic)PETALING JAYA: The transport ministry and MRT Corp are planning to turn Titiwangsa in the northern section of the city centre into a hub for public transport, Loke Siew Fook revealed.
The transport minister said that under the MRT2 project, the interchange station at Titiwangsa, which is among the 10 interchange stations, will be the main station.
Currently, the Titiwangsa station serves as an interchange for the monorail and the Ampang LRT line.
Loke said that once the MRT2 project is completed, the Titiwangsa station will have three modes of transport.
He said the MRT3 project will also have a station in Titiwangsa and a bus station.
“So this area is a hub for public transport and there are plans to develop the area as such,” he told reporters after a site visit to the Putrajaya MRT line today.
Loke said a plot of vacant land in the area has also been earmarked for transit-oriented development, or TOD.
He said the land was previously the site of the Pekeliling flats, which have since been demolished. It is owned by MRT Corp.
“Of course, we will discuss the approach to do it (development of the transport hub). But as it is the current government’s policy, there will be a tender,” he said, adding that his ministry was waiting for the finance ministry to carry out the exercise.
If possible, he said, the public transport hub will be built before the construction of MRT3 is completed. - FMT
