Mic Passes Resolution Backing Royal Pardon For Najib

MIC has passed a resolution today calling on Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim to bring the matter of pardoning the former premier Najib Abdul Razak to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.
The resolution was tabled by MIC deputy president M Saravanan during his concluding speech at the party's 77th Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Maeps, Serdang.
“MIC will continue to appreciate Najib's contributions to the development of the Indian community in the country.
“As a token of appreciation, MIC today presents a resolution requesting the government to grant a royal pardon to Najib promptly,” he said.
More than 1,500 delegates present at the meeting unanimously supported the resolution.
Previously, state MIC chapters have also proposed the same resolution in their respective delegates’ conferences, which were completed on Oct 13.
Najib is currently serving a 12-year prison sentence for corruption in relation to the SRC International case.
On March 31, he failed in his application for leave to review the previous Federal Court decision that upheld his guilty verdict and sentence.
MIC is the second political party after Umno to ask the prime minister to request the Yang di-Pertuan Agong to pardon Najib. Umno will also send a memorandum signed by all 191 party division leaders to the King.
Previously, Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Law and Institutional Reforms) Azalina Othman Said stated that the pardon process for Najib no longer involves legal procedures but is entirely at the discretion of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.
Meanwhile, during the AGM, delegates also unanimously passed a resolution that there would be no contest for the top two party posts in the upcoming party election.
This means that Saravanan and party president SA Vigneswaran will not face any challenges in the election next year.
The meeting also made several amendments to the party's constitution, including increasing the nomination forms for the vice-presidential position from 100 to 250. - Mkini
