Mic Desak Tindakan Tegas Terhadap Radio Terkenal Yang Caci Hindu Dalam Video Viral
Malaysian Indian Congress (MIC) has called out a video featuring staff from a local Malay-language radio station that allegedly mocked Hinduism.
On their Facebook page, the political party urged Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil to take action against the station.
They expressed their discontent, stating, “MIC condemns the foolish and disgraceful behavior by ERA FM staff, who ridiculed the Hindu religion by making a joke out of the sacred Kavadi dance and chanting ‘Vel Vel’ in a recent video.”
“This isn’t just a silly mistake—it’s a direct insult to the faith and traditions of Hindus in Malaysia. Such ignorance and disrespect have no place in our society.”
They further noted that those in the media should have a fundamental understanding of the religious and cultural sensitivities of the nation, and this incident violates that principle.
“This is not humour; it is an act of mockery that deeply offends the Hindu community.”
“This is a significant issue”
MIC explained that such ‘jokes’ undermine the mutual respect and harmony nurtured among the various races and religions in Malaysia.
“When a well-known media outlet permits such insensitivity, it sows division and threatens the very foundations of our multicultural society. This is not a small issue; it sets a dangerous precedent that cannot be overlooked,” they added.
MIC’s stance is clear: they want the authorities to take swift and strong action against the radio station.
“At the very least, ERA FM must apologize publicly to the Hindu community, and those responsible need to face consequences. No religion should be treated with such disdain, and those who engage in such appalling behavior must be held accountable,” they said. “We urge Minister Fahmi Fadzil to step in; letting this slide without punishment will set a risky precedent for the future of other media outlets.”
ERA FM has issued an apology video on TikTok
In response, ERA FM took to their TikTok to offer an apology and assure viewers that such incidents will not occur again.
Earlier, a video had gone viral showing one of the radio station’s staff imitating the Kavadi dance while others laughed and chanted “Vel Vel,” which refers to Murugan, the Hindu God of War.
The Kavadi dance is a significant ceremonial offering performed by devotees during the worship of Murugan and is often part of Thaipusam celebrations.
