Men Who Attacked Mmea Officers Trying To Leave Country Illegally Say Police

KUALA LUMPUR: The five foreign men who attacked Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) officers in waters off Tanjung Rhu, Banting on Friday (Jan 24) are believed to have been trying to leave the country illegally.
All five, including the one who was killed, tried to leave the country along with several others who are still at large.
Those still at large likely do not have identification documents or are involved in criminal activities.
On this, Selangor police chief Comm Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said that it is believed that 10 to 15 individuals are still at large.
"We are in the midst of tracking all the suspects who were on the same boat that ferried the five individuals who were shot,” said Comm Hussein.
"We are also investigating whether the suspects are armed or otherwise," he said on Saturday(Jan 25).
Comm Hussein said that four suspects who were shot are receiving treatment at hospitals while under strict police custody.
"Three of them are being treated at Hospital Sultan Idris Shah, Serdang, while another is at Hospital Tengku Ampuan Rahimah, Klang," he said.
Meanwhile, Selangor MMEA director Maritime Captain Abdul Muhaimin Muhammad Salleh said they received a report from the public about a fibreglass boat stranded 0.4 nautical miles off Pulau Carey on Friday.

"MMEA officers discovered a stranded blue fibreglass boat without a registration number. They found two injured men on the boat. The boat along with the two men was brought to the Selangor MMEA jetty," he said.
A MERS 999 call was made and medical personnel from Hospital Tengku Ampuan Rahimah, Klang, provided initial treatment to the two men, he said.
"One of the men died at the location while the other was sent to the hospital for treatment. Both men did not have identification documents and we suspect they are Indonesians," he said.
He added that Selangor police are conducting a thorough investigation into the incident.
"We will not compromise in taking action against any criminal activities in our waters," he said.
Earlier, it was reported that three foreign men, believed to have been shot, sought treatment at Hospital Sultan Idris Shah.
The three men were sent to the hospital at about 7.30am on Friday (October 27).
Sources said the victims suffered gunshot wounds and were sent to the hospital by an unknown individual.
"Two of them were wearing wet clothing while the other victim was only wearing boxer shorts. They also did not have any identification documents," sources said.
All victims gave conflicting reasons when asked about their injuries, but upon inspection, it was discovered that they had been shot.
It is learnt that the hospital administration has lodged a police report. - Star
