Johor : Who is in the running to be the next Chief Minister?...
Since the 2018 general election, Johor has seen three different politicians taking the mantle as chief minister.The title is a key position in Malaysian politics, with the individual leading the government for one of the economic powerhouses in the country. 
Polling has been set for Mar 12, following two weeks of campaigning. After the results are announced this Saturday, Sultan Ibrahim will appoint the next chief minister who commands the confidence of the majority of members of the state assembly.
Names of several heavyweights have been touted as the preferred politicians of their respective coalitions or parties to take over the coveted post, but so far only BN has publicly named Mr Hasni as its chief ministerial candidate.
BN : Hasni Mohammad 
During an event on Feb 24 to introduce the line-up of candidates for the Johor polls, BN chairman Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said that Mr Hasni is the coalition’s “poster boy” for the election campaign, and expressed optimism that he would be reappointed chief minister after the polls. 
Mr Hasni stressed that if given the opportunity to be reappointed chief minister, he would do so to the best of his ability.“If a mandate is given to BN, I will be given the responsibility to lead the state of Johor. And that’s what I will do,” he added.  
BN leaders are bullish that they will win the Johor polls. Ahmad Zahid said on Feb 27 that BN is eyeing at least two-thirds majority in the state assembly.For this election, Mr Hasni is defending his Benut seat against Mr Haniff Ghazali Osman of Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR), Mr Isa Abdul Hamid of Perikatan Nasional (PN) and Mr Iskandar Noor Ibrahim of Parti Pejuang Tanah Air (Pejuang). 
PKR : Maszlee Malik 
Dr Maszlee Malik, former education minister, is contesting the Layang-Layang seat under the PKR banner in the Johor state polls.Formerly with Bersatu, the 47-year-old is also the Simpang Renggam MP, the parliamentary constituency which houses the Layang-Layang state seat. He joined PKR last year. He is contesting the seat against BN’s Mr Abd Mutalip Abd Rahim, PN’s Mr K Alagathiran and Pejuang’s Mr Ahmad Shafiq Othaman.
“It has been more than three years of serving the constituents during their sunny and rainy days. I hope they remember that I represented them,” he told CNA, adding that he has solved long-standing water issues caused by pollution in the constituency.
“Pakatan Harapan and PKR are not perfect and we might have made some mistakes during our 22-month administration, but we didn’t have ample time to correct our wrongs,” he said. Moving forward, Dr Maszlee wants to see an educated Johor that is known globally and becomes an international player in the economy.
PN : Sahruddin Jamal
When Dr Sahruddin entered a coffee shop at Kampung Teratai, a rural area in northern Johor, there were only five or six patrons.The Bersatu politician, who replaced Mr Osman as chief minister in April 2019, was hoping to speak to as many locals as he could on his campaign trail to retain his Bukit Kepong state seat. 
Dr Sahruddin, the former chief minister,was relatively new to the political scene, having clinched the state seat for the first time during the 2018 general election, but the medical doctor has become a household name in the state after his short stint as chief minister. Prior to his appointment as chief minister, Dr Sahruddin was the executive councillor in-charge of health, environment and agriculture under the PH government. 
Despite the challenges he faced, Dr Sahruddin’s popularity has put him at the forefront of PN’s campaign in 2022. 
PEJUANG : Shahruddin Md. Salleh 
When Dr Shahruddin Md Salleh was a member of UMNO and then Bersatu, he did not have to worry much about political strategies.But as the head of Pejuang in Johor, he is now responsible for the strategy and planning of the political party in the state.
Dr Shahruddin, 66, had previously contested and won in the Jorak state seat under the BN ticket during the general elections in 2008 and 2013. He was elected as Sri Gading MP in the May 2018 election, contesting under the Bersatu ticket.
He quit Bersatu and his post as deputy works minister in June 2020, a few months after the Sheraton Move. He joined Pejuang, which was founded by Dr Mahathir Mohamad after he was sacked by Bersatu, in July 2020. 
Dr Shahruddin, who is a civil engineer by profession and lecturer by profession, joined politics in 1995, becoming the political secretary of Mr Muhyiddin. Dr Sharuddin wants to see Johor be developed to be on par with neighbour Singapore.He also hopes to develop the rural areas in Johor and push for modernisation in the agricultural sector. - cna
Speaker apologises after giving Najib another week to explain 1MDB debts...
Dewan Rakyat speaker Azhar Azizan Harun apologised to parliamentarians today after granting Najib Abdul Razak (BN-Pekan) another week until next Tuesday to provide an explanation on 1MDB debts.
This came after Tony Pua (Pakatan Harapan-Damansara) and opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim (Harapan-Port Dickson) pointed out that the speaker gave an extension to Najib who is in Johor merely to campaign for BN candidates for the Johor election.
They felt that Azhar's decision was not in line with the status of the legislative branch. "I take note and thanks for the reminder. On the benefit of hindsight, I did not take into consideration what was said by the MP before making the decision. "I will consider the matter in the future. My apologies," said Azhar.
Earlier, Pua urged the Dewan Rakyat to suspend Najib from Parliament for refusing to provide an explanation on 1MDB debts to the Dewan Rakyat by March 9 as instructed by the speaker. He said Najib went to Johor merely to campaign and he is not even a candidate in the state polls.
Azhar, however, noted that he has given a one-week extension for Najib to provide an explanation to the Dewan Rakyat. "What he said outside (Dewan) is beyond my control," said the speaker.

Anwar also questioned Azhar’s decision, asking if Najib's political involvement supersedes Parliament. "The explanation by the speaker is not in line with the position of Parliament," Anwar opined.
On March 3, Pua submitted a motion to refer Najib to the Parliamentary Committee of Privileges for misleading the House over his debate on 1MDB debts on March 2, where he claimed that not a single sen was used to repay the principal amount of 1MDB debts.
Najib also claimed that public funds were not used because various entities, including Goldman Sachs, audit firms KPMG and Deloitte, Ambank and the US Department of Justice had returned 1MDB funds totalling RM23 billion to Malaysia.
Finance Minister Tengku Zafrul Abdul Aziz had said that the country has yet to repay the principal amount of 1MDB debts but Putrajaya has been servicing the interest on those debts.

Are you a speaker or a squeaker. If you truly made a mistake, then you should immediately address it. Recall your decision and summon Najib to answer in parliament. After all Johore is only 3 hours away. If Najib can speak so authoritatively in Parliament, then he must have had the facts to do so. Why does he need one week to explain. Afterall the former Prime Minister, the former finance minister, and current finance minister have said he is lying to the August House. What more explanation do you need.
The motion is to refer Najib to the Parliamentary Privileges Committee. You gave a chance for Najib to explain, but Najib is showing his middle finger to you. Shouldn't you now approve the motion and refer him to the Committee. Are you going to allow Najib to attend Parliament until he answers. If so, wouldn't it look ridiculous if Najib attends Parliament, but doesn't your question but on a date he decides.
You are a stickler in finding every reason to deny any motion especially by the opposition, saying you follow the SO to its letter, most times using your own interpretation. You cannot now admit a mistake and not do anything about it. It is not about you, but the highest body in the land. You were roaring like a tiger having Parliament under your complete control, not even allowing the truth about what the Agong said to be revealed. Prison can wait ! Ordinary raakyat cannot. Parliament can wait for him ! Other Parliamentarians cannot. He can pay court charges in installment ! Raakyat must pay before being released. He can get court permission to attend daughter's delivery ! Other's ( male ) cannot ( female ) deliver in prison. As a convicted prisoner , he still gets police escort and don't need to masuk!!

What appears now is that a convicted criminal can control the parliament. The august house now looks like a junk house when such decisions can be made by the comptroller of the house to comply to a criminal. Do you think the others, the opposition can have such privileges and deserve such considerations? If the top law making house of a nation can fall to such level, what future do we have? - Appum
Johor is only an hour away by plane - less if you are Jibby and can afford a private flight. This Speaker needs to get real! Stop indulging the criminals in court. NOT acting in the people's interest. Parliament has to wait for the crook to turn up at his own leisure?!!! - Apa ini
