Ismail S Umno Critics Were Wrong To Doubt Him Says Aide

(Facebook pic)PETALING JAYA: Ismail Sabri Yaakob’s special officer, Kamarul Zaman Yusoff, says those from Umno who criticised and accused the prime minister of sabotaging the party were wrong to doubt him.
Citing the Registrar of Societies’ (RoS) approval of Umno’s application to amend its constitution and postpone its party elections, Kamarul said this proved that Ismail was a party man who put Umno above his own interests.
“Logically, if Ismail wanted to strengthen his position in Umno, he would have worked to ensure that the application was rejected by RoS, or accepted but only enforced after the next Umno party polls,” he said in a statement today.
“Instead, with RoS approving the amendment, the status quo of the Umno leadership will remain, whereby Ismail’s supporters, and even Ismail himself, could be sidelined as an Umno candidate come the next general election (GE15).

“Those who had accused Ismail of wanting to sabotage the party should be sorry for making such allegations.”
Kamarul also pointed out that home minister Hamzah Zainudin, who is Bersatu’s secretary-general, had been accused of using his authority to instruct RoS to reject Umno’s application.
He thanked Hamzah for being professional in managing the issue, while hailing RoS director-general Mohd Nawardi Saad for being unflinching in carrying out his duties.
On Friday, RoS approved Umno’s application to amend its constitution, with the party set to hold its next elections no later than six months after the next general election.
The amendment means that Umno is now allowed to postpone its party elections for up to six months after a general election, or up to 18 months from the end of its leadership’s term, whichever comes later.
Umno had postponed its elections for 18 months after the last term ended on June 30 last year. - FMT
