Mco 11 Men Including Nine Foreigners Jogging Around Mont Kiara Arrested
KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 11 men, including nine foreigners, jogging around Mont Kiara were detained for violating the movement control order (MCO), says Comm Datuk Seri Mazlan Lazim (pic)
The Kuala Lumpur police chief said those detained – two Malaysians, an American, a British national, an Indian national, four Japanese and two South Koreans – were picked up when police made their rounds at Jalan Mont Kiara and Jalan Desa Kiara between 7.30am and 9.30am on Friday. (March 27)
"They were detained while blatantly flouting the MCO by going jogging
"They did not heed the advice given by police personnel and even gave outrageous excuses," he said when contacted
The case is classified under Regulation 7(1) of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases (Measures Within The Infected Local Areas) Regulations 2020, he added
"They can be fined RM1,000 or imprisoned for not more than six months or both upon conviction
"We are also investigating under Section 186 of the Penal Code which carries not more than two years' imprisonment or not more than RM10,000 fine, or both upon conviction," Comm Mazlan said
Statements from those detained have been recorded and they have been released on police bail, he added
"We will refer the investigation paper to the Deputy Public Prosecutor for further action," he said
Comm Mazlan hoped that all parties abide by the MCO in order to break the chain of Covid-19 infection
"Those with questions or any information can contact the KL police hotline at 03-2115 9999 or any nearest police station," he said. - Star
