Kl Cops Nab 194 People Including 127 Malaysians For Violating First Phase Of Mco
KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 194 people, including 127 Malaysians, have been arrested in the Kuala Lumpur since the start of the first phase of the movement control order (MCO), says Comm Datuk Seri Mazlan Lazim
The Kuala Lumpur police chief said 105 investigation papers were opened in connection with the arrests
"Those arrested - 127 Malaysians and 67 foreigners - aged between 18 and 86 years old - were found to have violated the MCO
"From those detained, 64 people have been prosecuted in court," he said in a statement Thursday (April 2)
For the second phase of the MCO from April 1 to 14, a total of 4,368 personnel from the police, Armed Forces and other enforcement agencies have been deployed to conduct some 56 roadblocks around Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya as well as to perform checks, he added
"Stern action will be taken against those who violate the MCO
"Our goal has always been to break the chain of infection," Comm Mazlan said
Crime in the city have also showed a 57.4% decline since the start of the MCO, he added
"Violent crimes are down 62.8% while property crimes showed a 55.5% drop
"The stark drop in crimes is due to various roadblocks conducted as well as increased patrols," he said
Comm Mazlan advised the public to be more responsible when spreading information on social media and other mediums
"Don't spread unverified news as it might cause anxiety and fear
"We will take the appropriate action against anyone spreading false news or information," he added
