Communications minister Fahmi Fadzil said MCMC is consistently monitoring the algorithms of social media platforms to curb any false or misleading content that may be pushed by the regime, Bernama reported.
He said the government has also engaged directly with social media platforms to convey Malaysia’s firm stance of zero compromise on the matter.
“Through our proactive and continuous engagement with these platforms, we believe a clear signal has been sent – that Malaysia will continue to resist and block any algorithms carrying Zionist propaganda from spreading in this country.
“As a sovereign nation, Malaysia has every right to state its position, and the platforms have taken note of the views we have conveyed,” he said after visiting the Sumud Nusantara Operations Centre in Sepang today.
Fahmi said the government’s firm position was also reflected in several meetings with TikTok, particularly regarding the appointment of a former Israeli defence forces (IDF) trainer as a content manager in the US.
“The presence of an individual who once trained IDF troops does not send a good signal and we have made our concerns on this matter very clear,” he said.
Fahmi also reminded all parties not to be misled by Zionist propaganda on the situation in Palestine and the Global Sumud Flotilla initiative.
“We must remain cautious against any propaganda by the Zionist regime. For example, in some countries, there have been viral claims that several Global Sumud Flotilla ships were attacked by Israeli commandos, when in fact such incidents never occurred,” he said. - FMT
