Mcmc Probing Influencer For Stirring Racial Sentiments
MCMC is investigating an online content creator for allegedly stirring racial sentiments over several issues.
The commission said it is probing the individual, who is described as an influencer and political activist, for “raising racial sentiments on social media involving the Perak state anthem, Malay economic empowerment through breaking Petronas and Gas Malaysia’s monopolies, and the takeover of Kuala Lumpur Tower”.
The suspect’s statement was recorded at MCMC’s headquarters in Putrajaya today. The individual’s phone and SIM card were also confiscated for forensic analysis.
The case is being investigated under Section 233(1)(a) of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 for abuse of network facilities, which is punishable with up to RM500,000 fine, up to two years’ imprisonment, or both.
MCMC said it has also questioned another individual who is suspected of a separate offence that similarly involves uploading content that is “false, grossly offensive, and contains 3R elements” of race, religion, and royalty on TikTok and Facebook.
In this case, the suspect’s phone was seized by the police, but the MCMC did not elaborate on the nature of the allegedly offensive content.
“The public is advised to use social media platforms responsibly and prudently, and not simply upload any content with 3R elements that could threaten racial and religious harmony in the country,” it added.

MCMC said it has opened four investigation papers against the two suspects, but did not name them as per standard practice for cases that have yet to be charged in court.
‘Negaraku’ in Chinese claim
Previously, the pro-Perikatan Nasional activist Syarul Ema Rena Abu Samah, better known as Ratu Naga, had uploaded a video allegedly insinuating that students of a Chinese national-type school in Teluk Intan were singing “Negaraku” in Chinese, while also highlighting the presence of a DAP leader at the event.
However, the students were singing the Perak state anthem “Allah Lanjutkan Usia Sultan”, which has a melody similar to the national anthem “Negaraku”, during an event in June last year.
Following backlash, Syarul Ema “apologised” and claimed she had taken down the video within 10 minutes of posting it, and deflected blame towards Pakatan Harapan cybertroopers for downloading the video and making it viral instead.
She also said the video merely pointed out that it is illegal to change the national anthem and never questioned anything about the Perak anthem.
An aide to Deputy Education Minister Wong Kah Woh had lodged a police report against Syarul Ema. - Mkini
