Mat Sabu Muhyiddin Punished For His Betrayal
Amanah President Mohamad Sabu described the current political crisis faced by the Perikatan Nasional government as punishment for Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin’s “betrayal”.
He said Muhyiddin played a vital role in deposing the legitimately elected Pakatan Harapan government, which was a dark period for the country’s democracy.
“In February 2020, a dark episode was recorded in the history of the country’s democracy. A government elected by the people had fallen through the betrayal of elected representatives who party-hopped.
“This is not only something unfortunate but something damning.
“Now, the government - which admits it was formed by a ‘hole in the roof’ by stealing the rakyat’s mandate - is about to collapse. It is not a stable government but a failed government,” he said in a press statement today.
Mohamad, better known as Mat Sabu, said this when commenting on the current political scenario after Muhyiddin was found to have lost his parliamentary majority and is expected to resign today.
“Now he is being punished for his betrayal. History will record that he was a failed prime minister, stealing his mandate from the Malaysian public.
“This is the biggest evil. If at war, history dictates that traitors are usually sentenced to death.
“This is because their betrayal has damaged the democratic system. Betrayal or stealing the people’s mandate in the middle of the road like this cannot be tolerated,” said the Kota Raja MP.
Further, the former PAS deputy president said that since independence in 1957, the country has experienced 14 general elections as a process to elect its leadership, where political parties compete to get the most support and become the government of the day.
“The party or coalition with the most elected representatives will allow them to form a government, while the losing party will try again to gain support in the next election.
“This practice has been adopted by the people since independence. Even though it still needs improvement, it is generally a democratic system that is accepted by all,” he said.
Mohamad also expressed concern that the party-hopping trend will continue to happen on a larger scale in the future.
“What will happen if, one day, 40 MPs are bought by outside powers every term? Surely, the country’s sovereignty will be pawned.
“This incident should not be allowed to happen again. The rakyat’s electoral mandate should not be played by stealing and jumping parties in the middle of the road.
“There is no other way but to go back to the bottom of the road and try to correct the mistake. Indeed, God is all-forgiving and all-loving,” he said. - Mkini
