Mat Sabu Denies Insulting The Malays
Mat Sabu says it is ‘dangerous’ to support a corrupt Muslim leader simply because he or she could repent.KUALA LUMPUR: Chaos erupted at the Dewan Rakyat today when Noh Omar (PN-Tanjung Karang) questioned a remark by Mohamad Sabu (PH-Kota Raja), who was speaking on corruption
The incident began when Mohamad, better known as Mat Sabu, said he agreed with Mujahid Yusof Rawa (PH-Parit Buntar) that the Malays were united by their values, including their stand against corruption
He said the notion that it was acceptable to support a corrupt Muslim leader because he or she could repent was a “dangerous” one
“For us, we support Muslims with integrity, regardless of which party they are from,” he said when debating the royal address
“We should not give our support because of Islam yet (accept) corruption.”This triggered a response from Noh, who accused Mohamad of making a sweeping statement that insulted the Malays
“Do not generalise. Who is corrupt? Do you have proof? (You are) Malay, YB, do not insult the Malays,” he said
Mohamad denied Noh’s claim, saying he had not insulted the Malays and meant only in general, that they wanted Malays with integrity and good character
Noh then questioned whether the former federal territories minister’s political secretary was involved in corruption after being called in by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission to give his statement
Khalid Samad (PH-Shah Alam), who is the former federal territories minister, said his former aide had been investigated but had yet to be charged. - FMT
