Mat Rempit Mocked For Protesting To Demand Petrol Subsidy Netizens Claim They Are Unworthy Of Assistance

THE Budi Madani RON95 (BUDI95) petrol subsidy scheme kicks into effect today (Sept 30). But not everyone is happy about the roll-out, feeling that they have been unfairly excluded.
One such community are the poor, helpless Mat Rempit (illegal bike racers) who apparently staged a protest to register their dissatisfaction at being excluded as one will need a valid driving license (and identity card) to qualify for this aid.
A short clip has been going around showing a group of these daredevils revving their engines and performing wheelies at a petrol station, purportedly in protest at being sidelined from the BUDI95 scheme.
This “stunt” was highlighted by many on social media. One such example was a post on X by Hobin Jang Hobin (@HobinJangHobin) which has already amassed 1.5M views, denoting that this protest had captured public’s attention though NOT in a good way.
One observer wondered what was so difficult in meeting those BUDI95 conditions for one only needs to possess an IC (identity card) and valid driving license.

Another mocked the Mat Rempit for being inattentive at school and being involved in illegal racing but later blame others for their shortcomings.

The overall mood was captured in one comment that underlined that those without appropriate licenses, road tax or insurance deserve no helping hand.

Another example of the merciless trolling was from Anxious for Msia (@anxioustapir) who called on the authorities to use this opportunity to nab Mat Rempit who did NOT possess valid documentation.

This X user was extremely pleased that his post had gotten the attention of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim who responded with a ‘love’ emoji. PMX had apparently re-posted the tweet to underline support for the BUDI95 scheme and its roll-out mechanism.

Of course, this being Malaysia, the issue inevitably becomes tainted with race, with one commenter pointing out that the Mat Rempit phenomena is a uniquely Malay disease.
He reckoned that while Chinese youth were working hard and earning money to buy “Tanah Melayu”, the Malays were busy with these illegal biking activities.

The disdain for this particular breed of motorcyclists was clear with many comments pouring scorn on them and their demands.

This contempt was reflected in the many calls to use this exercise to nab those without valid licenses.

The debate on whether foreign visitors should be entitled to petrol subsidies was also touched upon here with a few stating they, too, should not receive any aid. But it was crystal clear that the Mat Rempit gang most definitely does not deserve any help nor sympathy.

At the end of the day, if the clip is indeed genuine and these Mat Rempit were showing their displeasure at being left out of the BUDI95 programme, one can only agree with this summing up of “stupidity at its finest” by one commenter.
