(File pic)JELI: Many former Umno members have applied to rejoin the party, Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said today. He said the applications would be reviewed by the party disciplinary board to verify the membership history of the applicants.
“The matter will also be brought to the Umno management committee for deliberation and then decided by the Supreme Council,” he told reporters after opening the Jeli Umno Youth annual meeting today.
Asked about former Selangor Umno chairman Noh Omar joining Bersatu, Zahid said expelled members are free to join any party they prefer. “It is their choice,” he said.
DAP and Malay-Islamic agenda
Zahid said the unity coalition government remains committed to advancing the Malay-Islamic agenda without neglecting the interests of other communities. He denied claims that government leaders were in collusion with DAP.
“In my year and a half as deputy prime minister and sitting in the Cabinet, DAP has never once opposed the Malay-Islamic policies that are in line with the Federal Constitution.
“We are not in collusion with DAP; they are a component party in Pakatan Harapan. Despite having only four ministers, they do not dispute these policies because they respect that experienced Umno ministers are helping the unity government under Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.
Zahid said the commitment to uphold the interests of Malays and Islam will continue, alongside maintaining equality among all. - FMT
