Malaysians Online Condemn Those Flouting Covid 19 Sops On The Road
PETALING JAYA: Malaysians have taken to social media to condemn those who are continuing to act against movement control order rules.
This comes after a high number of vehicles were spotted by the Malaysian Highway Authority (LLM) en route to the East Coast on Saturday (May 9).
The government had also warned people against visiting a list of premises with a high risk of spreading Covid-19 infections under the Hotspot Identification for Dynamic Engagement (HIDE).
On this, Facebook user Danny Csk said those who are travelling without a permit should be issued compounds by the authorities, adding that the collection would help contribute to the economy.
"Ok ma, high summon collection and can help the economy a bit. Many citizens want to donate to Malaysia. PDRM, please fine them and make them U-turn for those travelling illegally without (a) permit," he said.
Asyraf Maizad Ramesh Zakir criticised those rushing out of the city, which defeats the purpose of the MCO.
"Typical Malaysian mentality. Whenever a place is imposed with an MCO, all will suddenly decide to go out of town and potentially bring the virus with them," he said.
Selvamani Murthy urged that all Malaysians comply with Covid-19 precautions to lift the burden on frontliners.
"In most scenarios, the main factor behind the spike in Covid-19 cases in hard-hit nations is people not following Covid-appropriate behaviour
"This is a serious reminder for all of us, transmission of the virus can be easily rekindled once people increase their activities and contact with each other," he said.
Even with vaccinations, Selvamani said people need to continue to stay diligent and adhere to Covid-19 precautions at all times.
"Just stay at home as much as possible! Protect yourself by cutting the chance of infecting and getting infected! Stay united to fight Covid-19," she said.
Ken Chung expressed his sympathy with frontliners who had to be away from their family and put up with the stubborn attitudes of Malaysians, adding that this is causing the number of Covid-19 cases to rise.
"Stubborn! Pity the frontliners; doctors, nurses, police officers, soldiers and others. You think they don't miss their family members," he said.
Twitter user @gabbiePetrova said it was sad to see the low level of awareness among Malaysians and warned that the pandemic will be out of control if stern action is not taken.
"It is sad to see the awareness level among rakyat is extremely low, and MCO 3.0 seems meaningless. This pandemic is about to lose control soon, shouldn't the government do something like speed up the vaccination progress and tighten the SOP," she said. - Star
