Malaysiakini S Sabah Expos Ronald Asks If Govt Members Have Different Rules
PARLIAMENT | Bersatu vice-president Ronald Kiandee (PN-Beluran) asked if there were different rules for investigating government members while raising the issue of Malaysiakini’s exposé of the Sabah corruption scandal.
ADSDuring his speech on the motion of thanks over the royal address, he demanded an explanation for the people of Sabah on the scandal.
“What action has been taken on these headlines which are certainly in line with the wishes and aspirations of Tambun (Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim) to say that the federal government at all levels, including the state government, is administered with all integrity?” he asked in the Dewan Rakyat.
It has been a few months since Malaysiakini started reporting on the issue, but justice has been slow, he said.
He further claimed that opposition leaders accused of corruption have been swiftly investigated.
Besides that, he said the authorities should clarify the issue instead of issuing gag orders on news portals.
“The authorities should clarify what happened with this issue and not put a gag order on the news portal for publishing more cases that are said to involve several other people.
“I don’t know, but why is there a gag order?” he said.
He was referring to the letter Malaysiakini received yesterday, warning the news portal of contempt proceedings over an article on the recent events connected to the Sabah corruption scandal.
‘Attempt to destabilise Sabah govt’
Since November last year, Malaysiakini has published a series of articles and videos exposing alleged corruption among Sabah assemblypersons.c
Sabah Chief Minister Hajiji Noor dismissed the allegations as attempts to destabilise the state government and tarnish its reputation.
ADSLast month, MACC chief commissioner Azam Baki said the investigation into the scandal has been completed and the investigation papers have been submitted to the deputy public prosecutor.
Ronald raised the issue last month, when he mocked political rivals during a recent party event in Sabah by referencing the ongoing corruption scandal.
Ronald’s remarks seem to position Bersatu as a cleaner and more transparent alternative in Sabah’s heated political climate, where corruption scandals have dominated headlines.
The state is bracing for an election expected to take place later this year. - Mkini
