Malaysiaberdoa Siti Hasmah Calls For Prayers This Friday For Covid 19 Fight
Dr Siti Hasmah Mohamad Ali, wife of former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad, is encouraging Malaysians to pray for the fight against Covid-19 this Friday between 12pm and 1pm, using the hashtag #MalaysiaBerdoa
The Health Ministry director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah also supports this initiative, tweeting a video today which featured Siti Hasmah speaking about the initiative.
“Our hospitals are full, our mortuaries also can no longer deal with so many deaths.
“I call on all Malaysians, regardless of race or religion, on Friday (May 21), between 12pm and 1pm, wherever you are, whether you are at home or in the office, let us spend time praying so that we are protected from Covid-19.
“Thank you for taking part wherever you are and hopefully God blesses this small effort of ours,” Siti Hasmah said in the video.
An aide from Mahathir’s office confirmed with Malaysiakini that the initiative was started by Siti Hasmah as she wanted to find a day for all Malaysians to pray in solidarity in the fight against Covid-19.
She spoke to some “prominent people”, including Noor Hisham, about #MalaysiaBerdoa, the aide said.
Meanwhile, Noor Hisham’s aide told Malaysiakini that the director-general was “helping to spread the message just as a call to unite and pray together wherever, whoever you are”.
Malaysia has seen a sharp increase in the number of daily Covid-19 cases in the past week, hitting a record high of 6,075 cases yesterday (May 19). - Mkini
