Malaysia Has Played Active Icao Council Role Since 2007 Says Dr Wee
PETALING JAYA: Malaysia has played an active role in the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Council since 2007, says Transport Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.
Dr Wee added that Malaysia hopes to continue its active participation in all ICAO programmes and initiatives.
"I congratulate all member states who had won in the elections of Part I & II of the ICAO Council.
"I therefore appeal to all member states for their strong support for Malaysia in the election, which will be held on 4 October 2022," he said after attending a reception hosted by Malaysia at the EVO Hotel in Montreal on Sunday (Oct 2).
Dr Wee said he was pleased to see guests from different member states join in the fun and enjoy Malaysian hospitality
"At the reception, there was a teh tarik demonstration and adance performance by cabin crew from Malaysia Airlines and AirAsia. We also had a range of Malaysian food, including nasi lemak, satay, mee goreng, roti canai, cendol and roti jala," he said.
Dr Wee said the reception was part of an effort by the Malaysian delegation to lobby for votes from ICAO member states, as the nation seeks re-election to Part III of the Council for the sixth term.
This comes after Dr Wee announced that the global standing of the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) as an aviation regulator has finally been restored with its reinstatement as a Category 1 safety and technical regulator by the United States’ Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
FAA’s assessment covers CAAM’s role as an aviation regulator, and is not an assessment of Malaysian airlines or airports. But due to the Category 2 status, airlines licensed by CAAM will not be able to add new routes to and from the United States, or enter into new code-sharing agreements that involve flying there.
