Malay Islamic Ngos To Hold Daulat Melayu Rally On May 24
A coalition of Malay and Islamic NGOs plans to hold a rally in Kuala Lumpur on May 24 to protest the government’s alleged failure to defend the interests of Malay-Muslims in Malaysia.
Coalition secretariat chairperson Syed Hassan Syed Ali said the plan stemmed from the community’s concerns about their purportedly diminishing rights.
“The Madani government does not have a proper direction for this country, which causes various problems and worsening racial issues.
“We see the government is unable to handle these problems as racial problems are becoming rampant, despite us having lived in harmony since the country’s independence.
“The Malay interests are getting diminished and not on a small scale,” he said at a press conference in Kuala Lumpur earlier today.

According to Syed Hassan, who is also the president of Malay-rights group Perkasa, they expect the rally to attract up to 20,000 participants and over 1,000 NGOs.
So far, some 700 Malay-Islam NGOs have confirmed their participation, he added.
Various issues to be raised
Adding further, he said the groups will also raise issues that affect other races during the rally.
They include the controversial Urban Renewal Act (URA), which he said can undermine Malay land ownership, and issues surrounding land acquisition at Kampung Sungai Baru in Kuala Lumpur.
Other issues regarding the KL Tower, Bernas management, and the usage of the “Allah” word would also be raised during the protest.
Syed Hassan stressed that the rally was not political, but any politician who wishes to participate is welcome on the condition that they come in their personal capacity.
ADS“Do not doubt our efforts and intention in organising this rally. Many on the government side accused us of exploiting race and religion, but all the issues we raised are real problems.
“(The Malays) are losing their rights, but they (the government) claim we are just exploiting the issues.
“They are the ones who have been misusing Malay and religious issues. They are the ones who actually gave Malay and Islam a bad name,” he claimed.
According to Syed Hassan, they have planned two series of ceramah ahead of the rally, one in Sungai Buloh this Friday and in Kampung Baru, Kuala Lumpur on May 23.
He also urged authorities to allow the peaceful protest to proceed.
