Malaysians Rally Behind National Footballer Faisal Halim After His Acid Attack Case Classified As Nfa

SPEECHLESS and stunt netizens, in particular football fans, seem to be up in arms against the police after Selangor soccer ace Faisal Halim expressed deep disappointment over the closure of investigations into the acid attack that severely injured hm on May 5 last year.
This follows confirmation from the 27-year-old national footballer’s lawyer Nik Zarith Nik Moustpha of Messrs Mohd Ashraf, Nik Zarith & Co that the Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC) has officially classified the case as “no further action” (NFA).

“Our client is understandably very disappointed with the outcome. Throughout the investigation, we took several proactive steps to ensure this case received the attention it deserved,” he told a media conference yesterday (May 8).
“We’ve fully cooperated with the Royal Malaysia Police and sent formal letters to several key institutions, including the Dewan Rakyat Speaker, the Home Ministry and the AGC, urging that the case be monitored and treated with priority.”
The public anger became even more widespread after Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department director Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain clarified that the police will continue to investigate Faisal’s acid attack case even though the case has now been classified as NFA.
He told Bernama that the NFA status refers to the arrest of three individuals as well as other leads – including closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage and a facial sketch distributed by police – which have been found to be unrelated to the case.
“This is the standard operating procedure (SOP) in any investigation. If an arrest does not contribute to or assist the investigation, the deputy public prosecutor (DPP) will classify the case as NFA until new developments or information arise,” justified Shuhaily.
Delving further, he explained that the three individuals previously detained have been released after investigations found that the actual suspect used a false vehicle registration number while the forensic analysis of the suspects’ phone did not reveal any evidence of their involvement in the incident.
Whether the cops will continue to investigate Faisal’s case or otherwise, one commenter preferred to imagine that “NFA simply means the file will be placed in the archive” with another remarked that “this subtly means closing the chapter of the book”.

But other less forgiving netizens claimed that the police are “treating the Malaysian public as fools” or “trying to spin” the incident in order to protect some quarters.
“Does this mean that the three suspects who were arrested were released because they’re not connected to the case or because they’re unwilling to be scapegoats (at the instruction of some powerful or influential quarters),” wondered one commenter.

Another likened NFA to “DNAA (discharge not amounting to acquittal) whereby the case will continue if there are new findings which not even God knows when. ”
“How can the case end up as NFA? Are you suggesting that the perpetrators are orang bunian (elves in the Malay folklore)?” one netizen summed up. – Focus Malaysia
