Zahidi Zainul Abidin says Umno wants to contest in all five state seats in the Padang Besar parliamentary constituency.PETALING JAYA: The Padang Besar Umno division wants to contest the Titi Tinggi state seat, a constituency which MCA has been holding since 1974.
Division chief Zahidi Zainul Abidin said this proposal, among others, will be forwarded to the central leadership for consideration. This MCA traditional seat was won by Teh Chai Aan in 2018.
“I have informed MCA of this matter, asking them to give way to Umno to compete in all five state seats in the Padang Besar parliamentary constituency in the upcoming election.
“These are Titi Tinggi, Beseri, Chuping, Mata Ayer and Santan,” Bernama reported him as saying after the divisional meeting today.

The Umno Supreme Council member said MCA should contest in a constituency which has a majority of Chinese voters, such as the Indera Kayangan state seat, because it has some strength there.
MCA has been losing to PKR candidates in Indera Kayangan in the last two general elections.
Meanwhile, Zahidi said the division had also proposed for a woman to be appointed as menteri besar of Perlis after GE15.
“It is impossible for Perlis to have 30% women candidates. As such, the division has proposed that it become the first state to appoint a female menteri besar.
“This is to prove that we are sincere in providing opportunities to women in this state,” he said.
Zahidi called on Wanita Umno to work hard to ensure victory for Barisan Nasional in GE15. - FMT
