Mahb Building Mosque At Its Airport In Turkey

The mosque, which can accommodate 2,800, is within walking distance of the terminal building and connected by a bridge from the arrival level of the airport
SAW, a wholly owned subsidiary of MAHB, held a ceremony this week to mark the start of the mosque’s construction on a built-up area of 2,035 sq meters
The ground-breaking ceremony was attended by MAHB chairman Zainun Ali, SAW’s top management and Istanbul’s deputy governor, Necip Çakmak
“The construction of this mosque will serve as a significant milestone in our endeavour to create value at SAW, not only for the convenience and comfort of the airport community but also for the passengers
“This will be the epitome of our social contribution and our high regard for the welfare of our employees, guests and community,” MAHB said in a statement
SAW chief executive Ersel Goral said the airport has grown consistently since MAHB took over operations 10 years ago
“The airport terminal building, which was opened on Oct 31, 2009 by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, has hosted more than 200 million passengers
“As one of the major players in the Turkish civil aviation industry, our main goal has always been to achieve ultimate passenger satisfaction,” he said, adding that the construction of the mosque was in line with this
MAHB said the building of the mosque is timely as the number of passengers is expected to increase following the expansion of its boarding hall, which can accommodate 41 million passengers a year, and completion of the second runway
Last year, SAW recorded 34.1 million passenger movements, which is an improvement of 8.8% over 2017, making it the second largest airport in Turkey and 12th largest in Europe in passenger numbers. - FMT
