Dr Mahathir S Two Sons Declare Over Rm1 2 Billion In Assets To Macc

(NST) : Graft busters are satisfied with the asset declarations made by the sons of former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki said Tan Sri Mokhzani Mahathir declared total assets amounting to approximately RM1 billion, with a personal value of RM316 million.
“Mirzan declared a total of RM246.2 million in assets, with a personal value of RM120 million,” he told reporters today.
“I am satisfied with the asset declarations provided by the two. Further updates will be provided in due course,” he added.
Azam said both Mokhzani and Mirzan declared their assets directly to him, as he was the one who issued the warrant for the declarations.
“They complied with my request to declare their assets.
“My forensic officers have conducted assessments and analyses of the declarations,” he said.
It was reported in September last year that Mokhzani and Mirzan, have declared their assets to the MACC.
Azam said they have declared their assets but his investigators were finalising the details with their lawyers.
Meanwhile, Azam said they were still tracking down assets owned by former finance minister the late Tun Daim Zainuddin, his family members and proxies.
“We are still conducting investigations on his assets which have been declared to us.
“Based on information obtained from our counterparts, there are indicators of Daim’s assets abroad,” he said declining to elaborate further.
He said the investigation was not easy as it involved multiple jurisdictions.
“After the passing of Tun Daim on Nov 20, the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court discharged and acquitted him of charges related to failing to comply with the notice under Section 254 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CPC).
However, investigations under Section 23 of the MACC Act 2009 and Section 4(1) of the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing, and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001 (AMLATFPUAA) related to this case are still ongoing,” it said in a statement.
It said the investigations also involve Daim’s wife, Toh Puan Na’imah Abdul Kadir, and his family members, and focus on the acquisition of overseas assets.
