Macc Officers Visit Sapura Energy In Graft Probe

It was reported last Friday that MACC has begun two investigations into alleged bribery and fund misappropriation involving Sapura Energy Bhd.
PETALING JAYA: Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission officers visited Sapura Energy Bhd’s office at Menara PNB in Kuala Lumpur today in connection with two investigations involving the company, says the oil and gas services provider.
In a Bursa filing, SEB said it is fully cooperating with MACC and will provide the necessary information to support its inquiries.
“As a responsible publicly listed entity, we remain committed to upholding strong standards of corporate governance, transparency and integrity in all our activities,” it said.
The company assured its stakeholders that business operations continue as usual.
“Recognising the importance of keeping stakeholders informed, we will provide further updates as appropriate should there be any significant development,” it said.
It was reported last Friday that MACC has opened two investigations into alleged bribery and fund misappropriation involving the company.
An MACC source said the investigations are based on an initial probe opened at the end of 2023, which also involves claims made related to the company.
“These two investigation papers are focused on money laundering activities and misappropriation related to claims made in 2018 when the company was known as Sapura Kencana Petroleum Berhad.
“The investigation will also focus on issues related to governance weaknesses and management shortcomings,” said the source.
MACC chief commissioner Azam Baki said the investigation papers were opened under the MACC Act 2009 and the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001. - FMT
