Hannah Hopes Macc Will Look Into Claims In Fam Poison Pen Letter

(Bernama pic)PETALING JAYA: Youth and sports minister Hannah Yeoh is confident that the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) will look into a poison pen letter involving the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM).
On Sunday, a poison pen letter went viral on social media accusing FAM of fraud, abuse of power, mismanaging funds, discrepancies in salaries and benefits, and issues with the Harimau Malaya squad and the national training centre project.
While FAM president Hamidin Amin dismissed the letter as “defamatory” and said the football body is considering lodging a police report, Yeoh said today she believed that “MACC will do its best to look at all the issues raised”.
“If there is a report, I believe the ministry will contact MACC to see what are the measures that need to be taken,” said Yeoh in a Bernama report.
“I believe FAM has provided the answers, but I will wait. If it’s a poison-pen letter, then it is difficult. Poison-pen letters are a norm at workplaces.
“We will take action if a report has been lodged.”
Yeoh also hoped that FAM, which discussed the matter at its annual congress on Monday, will be able to address the issues internally, especially as MACC officials are among those serving on FAM’s integrity committee.
She was speaking to reporters after launching a technical and vocational education and training (TVET) programme in Hulu Langat.
On Tuesday, Hamidin said all matters involving FAM’s finances followed procedures and were scrutinised by various committees before being presented to FAM’s executive committee for approval.
“Everything stated in the anonymous letter is more of a personal attack. It appears to come from one or more individuals who are dissatisfied with the highest leadership of FAM,” he said.
“FAM is always open to investigation and will provide its full cooperation in providing information about the allegations stated in the anonymous letter.”
He said FAM will seek assistance from the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission to track down the source of the letter, adding that an internal investigation will be conducted if it turns out that the letter was penned by a member of FAM’s staff. - FMT
