Macc Didn T Arrest Pbk President Says Wan Junaidi
Law minister Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar said Voon Lee Shan was never arrested. (Bernama pic)PETALING JAYA: Parti Bumi Kenyalang (PBK) president Voon Lee Shan was not arrested by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) this morning, clarified law minister Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar.
“This is not true. He was never arrested,” he told FMT.
FMT has been made to understand that Voon was merely called up to give his statement to assist in an ongoing probe by the anti-graft agency.
The MACC is also said to have tried to contact Voon multiple times for a probe into a viral video, but failed to get through to him.
Anti-graft officers then met him around Kenyalang Park to explain that he was needed at their Kuching office to help in their probe, serving him a notice to assist in investigations under Section 30(1)(a) of the MACC Act.
Earlier today, the PBK president claimed he had been arrested by the MACC after he was stopped by the officers while he was driving, with his keys taken away.
In two videos posted on his Facebook account, Voon said he felt “under threat”, adding that the MACC should have called him instead of stopping him by the road.
In one of the videos, an officer could be heard informing Voon that they were just carrying out their duty to serve him a notice to be present for questioning by the MACC.
“So, we’re serving you this notice. You need to come with us to the MACC office,” said the officer, urging Voon to cooperate.
In a press conference outside the MACC office, PBK’s Batu Kawah candidate Chai Kueh Khun had claimed that Voon’s sudden questioning was an act of intimidation to hinder the work of the party. - FMT
