Macc Confirms Arrest Of Political Party S Deputy Chairperson
The MACC has confirmed that it had yesterday detained a deputy chairperson of a political party linked to a former minister.
The suspect, who holds the position at a state chapter, was investigated for allegedly obtaining kickbacks from several companies which received projects from a ministry in 2019.
In a statement, MACC said that two company directors were also detained in an operation in Ipoh, Perak yesterday.
The commission stated that it seized RM1.2 million in cash kept in a house and office of a proxy to the former minister and the suspect.
Several company and individual accounts amounting to RM77 million were also frozen.
Other than that, the graft-busters confiscated a luxurious vehicle used by the former minister as an official vehicle and believed to have been owned by a company director who received a project from the ministry.
"The investigation is ongoing and the MACC hopes that all parties abstain from making any speculations," the statement added.
It didn't reveal the names of the parties involved.
The media yesterday reported that the MACC had detained Perak PKR deputy chief MA Thinagaran, who was said to be an aide to former water, land and natural resources minister Dr Xavier Jayakumar.

However, Xavier today clarified that Thinagaran was only a close family friend and not an aide as reported.
"In a recent media report, my name was implicated, and it has brought prejudice against me as an elected representative.
"Acting on the advice of my family and friends, I am here to clear my name with the authorities," said the PKR vice-president in a statement. - Mkini
