Lorry Driver Who Caused Six Vehicle Pile Up Was On Drugs

The Myvi driver suffered minor injuries to his face and was treated at the green zone of Hospital Kuala Lumpur but his vehicle was a total wreck.PETALING JAYA: The lorry driver responsible for a road accident involving five other vehicles on Jalan Ipoh this afternoon, has tested positive for methamphetamine and amphetamine.
Videos of the incident spread on social media today, which showed the lorry rear ending a yellow Myvi, pushing it forward and causing the other collisions.
In a statement, city traffic investigation and enforcement department chief Sarifudin Mohd Salleh said initial investigations showed that the lorry had been on its way to Sentul when the accident occurred.
“At the Jalan Ipoh traffic light, the lorry involved went out of control and collided with five other vehicles that had stopped at the traffic light.”
“The five vehicles involved were a yellow Myvi, Proton X70, Honda HRV, Peugeot 208 FL and a white Myvi.
“The driver of the yellow Myvi suffered minor injuries to the face and received treatment in the green zone at Hospital Kuala Lumpur, while the other drivers did not suffer any serious injuries and were treated before being allowed to return home.”
The Myvi, however, was totally wrecked at both ends.
Tests conducted on the lorry driver found he had not been drinking, but that he was under the influence of methamphetamine and amphetamine.
The case is being investigated as a case of driving under the influence of drugs and causing death or injury.
If convicted, the driver faces a jail term of between three and ten years and a fine between RM8,000 and RM20,000. - FMT
