Let Rais Yatim Lead Negeri Sembilan Pn Says Bersatu Man
An ex-MP has named former Negeri Sembilan menteri besar Rais Yatim (left) as a suitable candidate to lead Bersatu’s state chapter in place of Ahmad Faizal Azumu.PETALING JAYA: Former Kuala Pilah MP Eddin Syazlee Shith has played down a proposal that he take over as Negeri Sembilan Perikatan Nasional (PN) chief from Bersatu deputy president Ahmad Faizal Azumu.
Instead, Eddin said the post should be assumed by a current elected representative or a more experienced figure.
He proposed that either Jelebu Bersatu chief Rais Yatim, a former menteri besar, or Labu assemblyman Hanifah Abu Baker be appointed instead.
“It is better that the position be given to a seasoned figure or an elected representative who is energetic and can continue the party’s struggles,” the Bersatu Supreme Council member told FMT.
“Rais has credibility, experience, and administrative capabilities. Hanifah is also quite suitable since he is an assemblyman. I think these (two figures) would be good for (PN’s) image.”
Eddin, a former Negeri Sembilan PN leader, was responding to a suggestion by R Sri Sanjeevan that he be reappointed to the post, replacing Faizal.
Sanjeevan, who leads Bersatu’s associate wing in Negeri Sembilan, also said that Hanifah or state Bersatu secretary Nazree Yunus could fill the post.
Eddin was replaced by Faizal, a former Perak menteri besar, in June 2023, just prior to the state election in August.
Faizal recently came under pressure to relinquish the post, particularly from Negeri Sembilan PAS chief Rafiei Mustapha.
Rafiei, who is Faizal’s deputy in the state PN leadership, had accused the Bersatu deputy president of displaying no interest in leading the state chapter. He also questioned Faizal’s leadership abilities during the state election.
Meanwhile, Eddin urged PN’s top leadership to replace Faizal quickly. He said both Bersatu and the coalition would lose support without proper direction at the state level.
“Do not delay, as there are already signs that voters in Negeri Sembilan are losing interest in PN and Bersatu,” he said. - FMT
