Less Than 50pct Of Malays Have Taken Booster Shots

Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin says efforts to communicate with Malays on the effectiveness of boosters have to be improved.
This is as only 47.9 percent of Malays nationwide have taken a third dose of the Covid-19 vaccine as of Feb 10, according to the minister.
Comparatively, data that Khairy shared on Twitter showed that 81.3 percent of Chinese have taken a booster, followed by Indians (56.4 percent), others (50.6 percent), and Orang Asli and other Bumiputera groups (49.6 percent).
Booster dose uptake among Malays is only above 50 percent in Sarawak (80 percent), Malacca (64.6 percent), Labuan (62.3 percent), the Klang Valley (59.5 percent), and Negeri Sembilan (55.7 percent).

Johor, where a state election is upcoming, only has 57 percent booster coverage.
"Focus must be given to areas with low (booster) coverage especially for the Johor election," Khairy said.
According to a heatmap of third-dose uptake in Johor, Muar is 71 percent covered while Johor Bahru is at 67 percent.
However, three districts are below 40 percent coverage, namely Segamat (37 percent), Pontian (35 percent) and Mersing (32 percent).
