Lawyers Chambering Students Prioritised For Vaccination
The Bar Council said the vaccination comes at no cost and the type of vaccine is strictly subject to availability at the vaccination centres.PETALING JAYA: Lawyers and pupils doing their chambering will be fast-tracked in the Covid-19 vaccination programme as they have been essential to the administration of justice, according to a Bar Council circular.
The Malaysian Bar’s national Covid-19 vaccine delivery coordinator Vivekananda Sukumaran said this was agreed upon after they met with national Covid-19 immunisation programme coordinating minister Khairy Jamaluddin on June 23.
“The minister has agreed to prioritise the vaccination of members of the Malaysian Bar and pupils in chambers who have registered themselves through the Kuala Lumpur Bar Committee (KLBC)’s vaccine delivery initiative.
“Those who have registered before June 23 can refer to KLBC for details on dates, prioritisation factors, and how they can expect to receive updates through their MySejahtera application,” he said in a circular today.
He said this initiative is open to all members and pupils in all states although the registration is being done through the KLBC, adding that registrations will be vetted and submitted to the relevant authorities in stages, so as to accelerate the notification of appointment dates.
“Administration of the vaccine comes at no cost and the type of vaccine is strictly subject to availability at the vaccination centres.”
Vivekananda said those not registered should do so as soon as possible so that the Bar Council can submit the relevant data to the health authorities to facilitate the provision of appointment dates, adding that they could also register via any initiatives organised by their respective state committees.
He said the Bar Council will do its level best to engage the relevant authorities in order to accelerate the provision of appointment dates.
“This is to ensure that all members and chambering students who are essential to the administration of justice, have access to the vaccine as soon as possible. We will endeavour to ensure that no one is left behind,” he said. - FMT
