Kl Bar Secures Priority Vaccination For Lawyers Nationwide From Mosti

 The Science, Technology and Innovation Ministry (Mosti) has agreed to give priority for vaccination to Malaysian Bar members and pupils-in-chambers who have registered for an inoculation drive spearheaded by the Kuala Lumpur Bar Committee (KLBC).
Bar Council's national Covid-19 vaccine coordinator Vivekananda Sukumaran and KLBC secretary Alvin Oh said Mosti will be giving vaccination appointments to those registered via the MySejahtera app by July 15.
The agreement came after Vivekananda - who is also KLBC chairperson - and Oh met with Mosti minister Khairy Jamaluddin yesterday.
"A presentation was given to the minister highlighting the risks of exposure to Covid-19 faced by members and pupils-in-chambers of the Malaysian Bar in the discharge of their duties as lawyers.
"The minister recognises and acknowledges the role of lawyers in the administration of justice and shares his concerns over the safety of members and pupils-in-chambers when discharging their duties," Vivekananda and Oh said in a circular today.


On June 12, the Bar Council agreed to expand a vaccination registration drive by the KLBC to all members nationwide.
Vivekananda and Oh said that as of yesterday, 1,908 Bar members and pupils-in-chambers have registered.
For those registered, priority for vaccination will be given to those who have health complications, are aged 50 and above, or have yet to receive their first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine.
The vaccination will be administered at no cost, while the type of vaccine will depend on availability at the respective vaccine delivery centres.
Earlier on June 22, the Selangor Bar announced that the state health department had agreed to make arrangements for state Bar members and pupils-in-chambers for prioritised vaccination. - Mkini
