Lawsuit Against Pkns Subsidiary Expected Says Selangor Mb
Selangor menteri besar Amirudin Shari says PKNS subsidiary Worldwide Holdings Bhd will go through the legal process after it was sued for RM368 million. (Bernama pic)PETALING JAYA: Selangor menteri besar Amirudin Shari has confirmed that a Selangor State Development Corporation (PKNS) subsidiary will vigorously defend a multi-million ringgit lawsuit in a dispute over a waste disposal project contract.
Amirudin said he had expected the suit brought by Western Power Clean Energy Sdn Bhd (WPCE) against Worldwide Holdings Bhd (WHB), after the state-owned property development company terminated a waste-to-energy project with WPCE.
He said the contract was terminated after WPCE allegedly breached its terms, adding that the WHB board was aware of the decision.
“We expected every consequence, including the suit by the other party. But we will definitely go through the process,” he told reporters after an event here today.
WPCE filed the suit last week alleging WHB had breached the agreement entered for a RM1 billion solid waste disposal treatment system project.
WPCE is seeking damages of RM368 million.
The two companies signed an agreement in December 2018 to jointly develop, construct, manage, operate and maintain a thermal treatment facility for waste management and conversion of waste to energy.
However, between November 2021 and June 2022, WHB sought to become the sole authority managing the finances of the special purpose vehicle set up for the project.
Don’t jump the gun, Azmin told
Meanwhile, Amirudin described Selangor Perikatan Nasional chief Azmin Ali’s claim that the state assembly will be dissolved on June 19 as “premature”.
Amirudin said it was his prerogative as menteri besar to propose to the sultan the date on which the state assembly ought to be dissolved.
“We will have to agree on the best time for the dissolution,” he said. - FMT
