Labis Mp Reminds Charities To Observe Mco After Volunteers Stabbed In The Back
CORONAVIRUS | Labis MP Pang Hok Liong has urged volunteers engaged with charitable works to abide by the movement control order (MCO)
He claimed that five volunteers in his constituency had been arrested after performing sanitation works after police received complaints from members of the public
“The five young volunteers were busy spraying and sanitising the whole area of Labis for more than two weeks
“Unfortunately, on their way back home after they finished sanitising the last area in Labis, they were arrested at about 8.30pm at a roadblock for flouting the MCO," Pang (photo) said in a statement today
“Despite explaining to the police and with the full knowledge of the police of their charitable work, they were arrested and placed in a lockup in Segamat
“I immediately contacted the police to plead for their release but was told they would be charged in court.” Pang said the volunteers had unintentionally violated the MCO
He lamented that some people do not appreciate the good deeds done by the volunteers
“I urge those who have complained to the police to look at himself or herself into the mirror and ask, ‘what have you done for the safety of the people of Labis’, instead of complaining
“If you do not wish to help, do not stab the volunteers in their backs,” he said
Johor police chief Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay, when contacted, said the five volunteers had conducted the sanitation works without an approval from the district council and the Health Ministry
"They couldn't explain when asked about the chemical mixture used for sanitation. They were also not wearing personal protective equipment," he said. - Mkini
