Knowledge Can Save You From Hell Bound Concerns Pm Tells Youths
Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has urged the younger generation to expand their knowledge in order not to become susceptible to incitement from those who preach fire and brimstone.
He cautioned that ignorance would construct a prison that entraps an individual within the confines of a narrow mindset.
“(When) our knowledge is limited, we (tend to) question if it is true when someone says you will go to hell if you don’t do this.
“Because our knowledge is too shallow, we are afraid to ask questions, so we become trapped in narrow-mindedness and condemn others at will,” he was quoted as saying by Bernama.
The prime minister said this when officiating the Anugerah Buku Negara 2023 at Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (Upsi) in Tanjung Malim, Perak.
The prime minister urged some 5,000 students who were present to inculcate the habit of reading to broaden their worldview.
“Return home with this message, our culture is the Malay culture, our civilization expanded because of the power of knowledge.
“If you want to progress, want to transform the country into a Madani nation to compete with other countries, then reading can help make Malaysia great,” he added.
Anwar also noted the “concerning” trend among the younger generation who are captivated with simple and incomplete information regarding complex issues such as the economy and national policies on social media.
Therefore, he urged them to deepen their knowledge about these issues and not just scratch at the surface.
Winning over Malays
Since the last general election, Anwar and his allies have been struggling to win over the hearts and minds of the young Malay voters, who appear to gravitate to Perikatan Nasional which campaigns along racial and religious lines.

During the 2023 national polls, PN’s social media campaign, especially on TikTok, also proved to be a potent tool.
